Dallas, Tex. — EMPOWER is proud to join communities across North Texas this June in recognizing Family Reunification Month, highlighting the essential work of helping children safely return home. This year’s theme,“The Heart of Home,” underscores the importance of connection, stability, and belonging.
Family reunification represents one of the most important outcomes in child welfare—when families are supported in overcoming challenges and creating safe, lasting change.
In North Texas, one family’s journey reflects that reality. After a period of separation, a parent engaged fully in services—working with their case team, building stability, and maintaining meaningful contact with their child. With the support of foster caregivers and local providers, the family was able to reunify, creating a new chapter rooted in safety and connection.
“Reunification is about more than returning home—it’s about building something stronger than before,” said Brittney Pearson, EMPOWER Senior Vice President. “It takes commitment from families and a network of support to make that possible, and we see every day how powerful that can be.”
In Fiscal Year 2025, EMPOWER supported 348 reunifications of children with their families across the Metroplex East region, reinforcing the organization’s focus on strengthening families and communities.
Even with this progress, the need for foster families continues.
Foster parents are critical partners in the reunification process—offering stability for children while encouraging ongoing connections with their families. These caregivers play a key role in helping reunifications succeed.
EMPOWER is calling for more foster parents across North Texas who are willing to support reunification. These families help children maintain hope and connection while their families work toward reunification.
“Supporting reunification means believing that families can grow and change,” Pearson added. “Foster parents are an essential part of that journey.”
